We are thrilled to announce our latest investment in Luper Technologies, a deeptech company specializing in air cleaning for wastewater treatment facilities. Luper has successfully secured a funding round with participation from Graduate Entrepreneur and Brabants Startup Fonds, along with loans from Nationaal Groenfonds and Rabobank Innovatielening.

Air cleaning in wastewater treatment facilities faces major challenges today. Conventional systems, typically based on activated carbon filters, come with high operational costs due to frequent filter replacements and energy consumption. These systems also contribute significantly to CO₂ emissions and often fall short in performance. As a result, unpleasant odours and air pollutants that affect the quality of life for neighbouring communities are left behind. As regulatory pressure increases and public awareness grows, the need for a cleaner, more cost-effective solution has never been greater.

Luper replaces these outdated systems with the AirShield, a modular system that serves both small sewage treatment facilities and large industrial plants. Based on Gas-phase Advanced Oxidation (GPAO) technology, originally developed at the University of Copenhagen, the AirShield provides a step-change in air cleaning. Its input is simply electricity, and its output consists only of harmless aerosols and oxygen, eliminating the need for consumables like carbon and drastically reducing environmental impact.

With its cutting-edge technology, the AirShield enables significant cost savings and enhanced performance. Combined with zero carbon emissions and low energy consumption, Luper offers a scalable and sustainable solution to the key pain points of air treatment in the wastewater sector.

Having completed successful pilots at Hoogheemraadschap Delfland and Hoogheemraadschap De Stichtse Rijnlanden, and with early implementations underway, Luper has already shown that its technology delivers real-world value.
