We are pleased to announce our investment in Edups, an innovative company tackling one of the most pressing challenges in medical education: preparing medical students for safe and effective digital prescribing.
Since 2012, electronic prescribing has been mandatory in the Netherlands. In practice, doctors prescribe with an electronically prescribing system, enabling them to issue prescriptions digitally, check for drug interactions, and maintain patient records. However, these systems are designed for clinical use, not for education. Medical students therefore still practice primarily with paper prescriptions, while, as a newly graduated doctor, they are expected to prescribe digitally from day one. This gap leads to uncertainty, stress, and unnecessary prescribing errors among junior doctors.
Edups offers the solution. Their cloud-based training platform enables students to practice electronic prescribing in a safe environment where mistakes can be made without consequences. Through virtual patient cases, students draft prescriptions and receive structured feedback from their teachers. Dashboards provide educators with insights into learning progress and knowledge gaps. This ensures that future doctors gain both confidence and competence in prescribing.
The founding team, Laura Kalfsvel (CEO), Samir El Abdouni (CFO), and Radu Feflea (CTO), combines deep expertise in medical education, pharmacy, and technology. Their strong networks in the Netherlands have already led to early traction: Edups has run pilots at Erasmus MC and LUMC, and they have since launched its first official paid implementation at Erasmus MC.
We are proud to support Edups on their mission to become the go-to prescribing education platform in Europe.
