The transition to cleaner transport is accelerating, but the supporting market infrastructure is still catching up. In the Netherlands (and soon across more EU countries), EV charging can generate tradable emission credits. These credits are financially attractive and designed to incentivise renewable transport, yet a large share is never claimed in practice. The reason is not a lack of demand, but a claiming process that is costly, highly regulated, and operationally burdensome for most charging operators and smaller portfolios.
Voltico addresses this gap by providing an automated infrastructure layer for managing emission credits for both companies and consumers with EV charging stations. The platform streamlines the full workflow: collecting the required charging-session data, validating it against strict standards, preparing the necessary bookings, and enabling the eventual monetisation of credits. By automating what is often handled through manual exports and spreadsheets, Voltico makes the process far more scalable and significantly improves access for smaller players.
Timing is a key part of the opportunity. With the implementation of RED3, new European rules take effect from 1 January 2026, most notably enabling consumers with home charging stations to sell their emission rights through accredited booking service providers. This regulatory shift materially expands the addressable market and creates a clear tailwind for platforms that can manage compliance at scale.
Behind Voltico is a founding team with complementary experience in mobility and fintech. The company is founded by two brothers, Maarten Poot (CEO) and Edward Poot (CTO), and both have built companies before. Maarten previously co-founded Felyx and brings first-hand experience in building and scaling a mobility business. Edward previously co-founded the fintech startup Cino and brings strong engineering and fintech product experience, including engineering experience at Adyen. Together, they combine commercial execution in mobility with deep technical and financial domain expertise, which fits Voltico’s compliance-heavy, transaction-driven model.
Voltico’s mission is practical: make the emission credit system accessible and economically viable for the long tail of EV charging, so the intended incentive mechanism works more effectively in the real world.
